Séance: The Entity for iPhone and iPad · Effective 23 October 2026 (draft, takes effect when version 2.0 is released)
The short version
- Your voice never leaves your device. Speech is turned into text by Apple's on-device recognition. If your device can't do that on-device, voice input is simply off and you type.
- Quiet sittings send nothing. They run entirely on your device.
- Live sittings send the text of what you say to our server, which asks an AI service to write the spirit's reply and a voice service to speak it. We don't store what you say.
- No ads, no tracking, no third-party analytics, no accounts. Your journal and purchases stay on your device and with Apple.

What stays on your device
Your journal (truths, names, shards), ectoplasm balance, ritual items, settings, the birth year you entered (used only to decide which sittings you may use), and a random install identifier. Deleting the app deletes all of it. Settings › Erase my journal clears your progress.
What a live sitting sends, and to whom

We never send your location, contacts, photos, microphone audio, name, email, advertising identifier or anything else from your device.
We keep only aggregate daily counters (for example, how many sittings ran) and our own spending totals.
Reporting a reply
If you report a spirit's reply, we keep that reply's text, the spirit's name and the date for up to 12 months to improve safety. We never keep your words with it.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by Apple. We receive a signed confirmation of what was bought so we can credit it; we never see your payment details. Parents can require approval with Ask to Buy.
Notifications
If you turn on "Tell me if something follows me", the app schedules a single local notification on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Children
Séance is a horror game for adults and older teens. It is not directed at children. Players who give a birth year under 18 can only use quiet sittings, which send nothing off the device. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to seance@lostisland.com and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK, Brazil or California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal information, and to complain to a regulator. Because we don't store what you say, there is usually nothing to retrieve or delete, but write to us and we'll answer. Where the GDPR applies, our legal basis for live sittings is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings › Live spirits; quiet sittings need no personal data at all. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.
Security
Everything travels over HTTPS. Our AI and voice keys live on our server, never in the app, and are capped so that abuse can't run up costs.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
